Are Halloween Costumes Over Sexualizing Our Kids? Written by Michelle Rivera

As I was shopping online for my two-in-a-half year old daughter’s Halloween costume this year, I noticed a somewhat disturbing trend.  It’s a trend that is not just geared towards teenagers either, but more disturbingly a trend that seems to be geared towards tweens and even children of a younger age.  Yes I’m talking about the sexy Halloween costume.

I have absolutely nothing against a sexy Halloween costume, I’ve even sported some myself, mostly in my 20’s!  Not when I was a kid though by any means.  So my biggest question is why are these costumes being targeted towards kids and teens?  My second question is, what do you all think about these Halloween costumes, do you think they are over sexualizing our kids?

This costume was advertised in the Teens category at the online shop I was looking at.

This costume was advertised in the Girls’ section, not teen section-Girls!  Check out the pose. Hmmm???

This costume was also categorized in the Girls section for costumes. Would you let your 11 year old wear this?
