However old your children are, getting yourself ready and putting on mascara and lipstick in the morning (if you are lucky!) is just a part of the daily grind we face literally every morning.  Here are tips from Coupons.com Household Savings Expert, Jeanette Pavini on how to save money on makeup and beauty care without having to cheat on your favorite products.

Five Mom Tips: Beauty and Makeup on a Budget

1. Know what you want.  Know what you want (and have in your budget!) before you go shopping to avoid getting three new eyeshadows you don’t need or will never wear. Also, take a look at what you already have in your makeup bag to avoid duplicates. Note: The friendly woman at the makeup counter is usually making commission from what you spend.

2. Just say no to the gift.  A gift? For me? How can it be bad? Don’t purchase something just because there is a free gift. Having a gift bag full of makeup that sits under the kitchen sink doesn’t save you money.

3. You don’t have to skimp on products you love.  If you plan on purchasing makeup take a look at Coupons.com first for coupon codes. There are some great deals! Here are a few current discounts:

4. Free Samples! Before you commit, most beauty shops and cosmetic counters offer free samples. Try before you buy.

5. Get creative. Why pay for simple beauty treatments when you can make it at home. Most of the products you need are around your house.  (If you have a daughter, this is super fun to do together!)

  • FACE: Hydrate your dry skin during the winter months with a mask. What you need: half of a ripe avocado, 1/4 C honey. Mix the ingredients and apply the mask to your face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
  • HAIR: If you are going to shower the next day, grab olive oil from the kitchen and lather all over your hair. Put your hair up and wash in the morning. (Don’t forget to use a pillow cover you don’t mind getting stained!) If you don’t want to make a commitment all night (or your partner can’t stand the smell!), simply lather olive oil in your hair half an hour before you shower and put your hair up in a bun.
