Ann Curry fans you will be waking up to sad news this morning as she will be calling it quits as co-host of the ‘Today’ show. She will be doing this despite the fact that she feels she deserved more time to work out “the kinks” after a shaky first year.
In an emotional interview with USA Today, Ann said “I’m going to have to tell our viewers. That’s what makes me more emotional than anything. I don’t want to leave them. I love them. And I will really miss them.”
Ann continued, “I have called the co-host job at the ‘Today’ show my dream job, and I would be lying if I said it was easy to leave that job.”
When asked about the ‘Today’ show ratings and her on-air relationship with Matt Lauer that was rumored to be lacking chemistry, she said, “You know, Matt and I have had great on-air chemistry for 14 years, been part of the No. 1 winning team for a history-making number of years,” she told the paper. “That said, I just finished my freshman year as co-host. In every single co-host’s first year, there have been kinks to be worked out, and perhaps I deserve as much blame for that as anyone.”
Ann also said that she was “deeply hurt” by leaks in regards to negotiations over her future and she said that she knows she is not to blame for the ratings worries.
It has been reported that Savannah Guthrie, who anchors the third hour of the show will be Ann’s successor and that Ann will now remain as the ‘Today’ anchor-at-large and head up a seven-person unit to produce hard news specials and segments for other shows.
Mommyhood to Hollywood loves Ann Curry and we will miss her as co-host of the ‘Today’ show.
