I will admit the unthinkable, I am a parent who does not have an Estate Plan or a Guardianship set in place yet for my 3 year old daughter.  Scary, I know.  Trust me when I say that this is something my husband and I have discussed, but yet still haven’t gotten around to doing.  I am a bit embarrassed to admit to this, but like so many others, the thought of estate planning, as well as planning for the guardianship of our child/or future children is somewhat a difficult idea for us to face.  Who in the world wants to think about dying and what will happen to your assets and children? It’s so depressing, it’s so morbid, and yet it’s so THE RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO.  Therefore, this has landed on my list of things that absolutely must get done this year.  After all, probate is not something I want my children or family members to deal with to ensure they receive their rightful assets.  Moreover, I certainly do not want a judge to decide who will have guardianship of my child if God forbid something happens to my husband and I before she turns 18 years old.

If my current situation sounds a lot like yours, then you are probably in need of information, such as what exactly does happen to our assets and children if we pass on without an estate plan and guardianship legally in place? What is an irrevocable living trust?  Or how do we pick a guardian in the first place? And can we change our mind about who we name as our child’s  guardian?  These are all very valid questions and so that is why I am pleased to share two very important videos, which interview Sona Tatiyants, Estate Planning Attorney.  These videos answered several of my worrisome questions and now I feel more than confident on how to move forward in this process.  I believe they can help you to do the same.
