I think most parents would agree that bedtime rituals are very important in keeping our children on a healthy sleep schedule.  For my family, bedtime rituals start with a bath for our little one, followed by a healthy before-bedtime snack with a glass of milk.  Our daughter is allowed to pick out one of her favorite preschool TV shows that is ‘On Demand’ to watch during her night-time snack.  Then when it’s over, she knows it’s time to pick out her reading books to bring to bed.  After she picks out her books, it’s her potty-time, which is then followed by washing her hands and brushing her teeth.  Lastly, we read a bedtime story, sometimes two bedtime stories and then she is off to dreamland.

Our daughter absolutely notices if any part of her bedtime ritual changes for one reason or another.  She definitely finds comfort in her routine and I think that it is normal for most children to find comfort in predictability.  My biggest recommendation to parents is to keep your children on a regular scheduled bedtime and to have a nighttime routine in place.  I believe soothing nighttime baths, a healthy snack with milk to hold them over during their sleep, as well as bedtime stories are all great ways to help your children get a good night’s sleep.

Here are some great bedtime stories you can download for your children for free!  It’s at www.otroscuentos.com:

  • Remember to tune in every night between 7-9 pm PT to Telemundo and Univision to watch the California Milk Board’s TV spot, “Ya es hora de ir a la cama” which reminds parents and children that it’s time to go to bed!
