The holidays are upon us and I would like to share some tips to help you successfully prepare for your family gatherings during this very busy time of year.
The first thing I advise is to NOT procrastinate on anything! If you can try to tackle your Christmas shopping in November, then do it. This allows for December to be a lot less stressful. You can then instead focus on the more enjoyable aspects of the holiday season, like decorating the house, spending time baking with your children, attending holiday parties and holiday shows.
Also plan your holiday meal well in advance and don’t be afraid to ask family members to bring their favorite side dishes and/or desserts to your holiday gathering. Also, cook ahead as much as possible. If there are dishes that can be prepared the night before your gathering then you should cook them the night before and not the day of. Items like holidays soups and stews are great for this! Party platters are also good for early preparation. In addition, quiches and tarts are great for making ahead of time as they freeze well, and you don’t even have to make them from scratch if you don’t want to. These tips will help to take some of the weight off of you, so that you don’t have the stress of preparing every single dish at your gathering, after all do you want to be a slave to the kitchen or enjoy the party with your family instead?
If family is staying at your home then making sure everyone is as comfortable as possible during their stay with you must be a priority. You can assure their comfort by having a designated place for them to sleep, being prepared with clean linens and towels for each of them. Also, make sure your refrigerator is stocked with some of their favorite foods and drinks to enjoy. My husband and I like to put a Hershey’s Kiss on our guests’ pillows, it’s both a fun and funny gesture that our guests often get a kick out of. Also, find out ahead of time what your guests would like to do during their stay with you and then make some time to enjoy some of those activities and/or outings with them.
If your guests have a baby, it’s a wonderful gesture to have some extra baby products on hand in the house too. I recommend Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers with NEW SureFit Design. They provide up to 12 hours of leakage protection, have a unique flexible waistband for all-around fit, are more conforming and gap-free as well.
Huggies Natural Care Wipes with NEW Triple Clean* Layers are also great beause they are gentle on baby’s skin, thick enough to clean the mess and have strong, soft, absorbent layers.
These tips should help you have a less stressful and more successful holiday gathering with your family!
